Beachcombing with a Metal Detector - By Keith Hetherington

Keith Hetherington was born in 1929 and grew up through the depression years. As a boy he experienced the excitement generated by a glimpse of gold when panning local bush creeks with an uncle. His boyhood love of buried and sunken treasure has carried over into adult life. The author has worked as a builder's labourer, house painter, roofer, milkman, iceman, factory foreman, medical journalist, scriptwriter for radio, television and films, freelance author, and odd job man. His introduction to metal detecting came in 1976 when a friend returned from England with a detector.

The author soon purchased his own instrument and by mid 1977 was a true convert to metal detecting. Living at the beach, has has specialised in this form of treasure hunting. When Keith Hetherington could not find a satisfactory book on 'Beachcombing with a Metal Detector' he decided to write one, outlining his own successful methods, and passing on useful information to others.

The author has used his metal detector on beaches from Queensland to Portland, Victoria. A lot of Australian beach sand is still left, just waiting to be scanned by his trusty detector. He looks forward to the challenge.
